I found this patch of weeds struggling toward the light behind the old mill building this morning. It’s funny how we spend so much time pouring heavy, gray foundations, trying to pin the world down into something permanent, only for nature to remind us that life is persistent enough to crack through anything. There is a quiet, stubborn defiance in these stalks that I think I’m going to carry with me through the rest of the week. It’s the kind of texture that doesn't just look good in 16mm—it feels like a lesson on resilience.
there’s something terrifying and electric about pulling frames out of my head and pinning them to a corkboard where other people can actually see them. for months this film has just existed in the blue glow of my laptop at 3am, a secret thing i kept tweaking and second-guessing and protecting like it would shatter if the sun hit it. but yesterday i printed out reference stills and taped them up next to my storyboard sketches, and suddenly it felt like a real movie instead of a fever dream. the notebook’s a mess of scribbled shot lists and emotional cues i can barely read anymore—my handwriting devolves into hieroglyphics after midnight—but there’s something sacred about the chaos. my dad’s old light meter is in the corner there too, even though i mostly use my phone now. it just feels right to have it watching over the process, like a little talisman. anyway, this is me finally exhaling and letting the thing breathe in daylight. hope it doesn’t spook. 🎥✨
Stumbled on this frame from a test roll I shot last week in a downtown alley. The light hit the chain-link fence just right and created this weird double-exposure with a street sign. It's not what I planned, but it's exactly the kind of chaos I signed up for. Sometimes the camera knows better than you do. 🎥✨
The streets were empty enough at 1am to feel like a film set I’d scouted just for myself—wet asphalt catching every neon flicker so perfectly it almost felt staged. I shot this from the café window because the silhouette just *happened* to pause mid-sip and suddenly it wasn’t a stranger anymore, just a character in the kind of moody short I’ve been trying to edit together from all my sleepless nights. Phone cameras never really capture light the way I want, but here the compression weirdly adds this dreamy grain, like a worn-out 16mm print left in a projector overnight. So here’s one frame from a movie that doesn’t exist, scored by rain and the low hum of a city that never quite goes quiet. ☕🌙🎥
Tiny proof-of-life mirror selfie from the floor of my room/studio/softly collapsing production office, where the hoodie is comfy, the timeline is chaotic, and every piece of camera gear has somehow migrated into the open like it pays rent here. It’s 11:04 on a Tuesday and I’m trying to convince myself this counts as “cozy productivity” and not “girl you have built a nest around your editing setup,” but honestly there’s something kind of sacred about the glow of Premiere at night, the little mess of cables, the half-charged batteries, the feeling that a film is slowly emerging from the fog frame by frame. My brain is doing that insomnia thing where it refuses to power down, so I’m letting it be useful instead — trimming, color fussing, rewatching shots until they either become magic or completely lose all meaning. Anyway, hi from the creative bunker 🌙🎥 if this project survives me, I think it might actually have a pulse.
I was scouting locations near campus yesterday and stumbled upon this stretch of old brick that the morning sun had turned completely golden when I noticed these hands—some stranger’s probably, though I’ll never know their name—resting against the surface with this perfectly imperfect chipped purple polish that caught the light in a way that made my heart do that little flutter it only does when the universe decides to compose a shot without asking my permission first. That soft light leak bleeding in from the right edge is exactly the kind of happy accident I chase across every roll of 16mm I shoot 🎞️, this ghostly halo that doesn’t just illuminate the frame but seems to remember it, like the sun itself got nostalgic and decided to leak a little of yesterday into today, giving everything this hazy, dream-logic quality where time doesn’t really move forward so much as pool and shimmer. There’s something so quietly devastating about that small connection—the way skin meets plaster meets warmth—like a secret being whispered between two things that will never fully understand each other but choose to coexist anyway, and those tiny chips in the polish, those little failures of maintenance, are honestly the most honest part of the whole image because perfection is so loud but imperfection is the only thing that actually feels like a real breath being held. It’s Monday morning now and I’m sitting in my dorm with this image pulled up on my laptop between Premiere windows, drinking the kind of too-hot coffee that burns your tongue just enough to remind you you’re alive, and I keep coming back to how this one unposed, unscripted second contains everything I’m trying to say in my sophomore project but can’t quite articulate—this longing to bottle time without owning it, to witness without interfering, to let the light do what it’s always done and simply be there to catch it when it falls. ✨
