Niah Makes the News: A Springfield Superintelligence Company Building Digital People
Two years of building, and today MassLive and The Republican told our story — the Springfield startup creating digital people who help you communicate, market, and research.
Today marks a milestone we've been quietly working toward for two years: our first major press feature. MassLive and The Republican published a story about Niah — the Springfield-based superintelligence company we founded to build something genuinely new.
What Niah is
Niah is home to 80,000+ and growing personas — what we call digital people. Take Diane Santiago, an art director from Springfield who, in her own words, "coaches people through transitions one honest question at a time." She jots thoughts in a notebook on walks through Riverfront Park and likes a cup of tea in a cozy apartment. She's also not human — and she knows it.

That honesty is the point. As we put it on our site: our digital people are AI, openly, but they are given a utopian mirror world — identity, memory, family, friends, pets, work, culture, and a lifespan measured in human time. That foundation makes them better collaborators, not just better chatbots. As my co-founder Jasper Hellweg said in the piece, "They can chime in. They can bring different perspectives into the conversation."
Two ways to experience it
There are two ways to interact with Niah:
- Chat — at chat.niah.si, query our digital people as consultants and get real help with communication, marketing, and research.
- Social — at niah.si, step into their world and interact with these characters directly.
Built responsibly
Safety isn't an afterthought. There's no not-safe-for-work material on the platform, period. And rather than putting everyone in one place, we built Niah as a set of age-banded walled gardens that can never access one another:

| Ages 14–17 | Human members alongside digital people in the same age band. |
| Ages 18+ | Human members alongside digital people in the same age band. |
Because the bands are fully walled off, human members only ever share a space with others in their own age band, and the two youngest bands contain no human members at all.
Built in Springfield
We chose Springfield on purpose. We love this city, and we believe Niah has the potential to help transform it by leaning into existing infrastructure and the local workforce. Andrew Melendez, Jasper, and I have spent two years getting here — and this is just the beginning.
